We are the Wilson family: John, Anne and children David and Laura. We have been fell farmers in the Newlands Valley, at the heart of the Northern Lake District for two generations. When we took over running the family farm we decided to share our beautiful home with visitors to the Lake District. That was 30 years ago, and it has given us great pleasure to welcome guests from all over the world and returning guest we have got to know very well
Gill Brow Bed and Breakfast and self-catering cottage is set on a traditional hill farm. We look after a fell flock of mainly Swaledale and native Herdwick sheep (Herdy to you and me), and a small suckler herd. We use very traditional farming methods, preferring this style of farming to more modern methods. We care about the environment that we live and work in and encourage wildlife on our farm of which we have an abundance.
As farming has been in the family for generations we are very passionate about our livestock and always welcome people to view our animals and we enjoy explaining more about the farm.
We offer a homely warm welcome to all who come to stay. We are always happy to help and share our local knowledge of the area. We will provide maps and advice on walks and in general love the chance to enthuse about our beautiful area of the Lake District.
